Reason #23: First Friday

Everyone is buzzing about First Friday in downtown Macon. Each month on first Friday, downtown Macon celebrates with culture, music, food, and fun at Robins Federal Credit Union’s First Friday. There are activities for everyone from children and families to students and adults. Downtown merchants keep their doors open later each first Friday with art exhibits, dinner specials, family events and more.

Each month presents new promotions, events, and happenings. There is something for everyone. Live bands from all over the Southeast perform at various venues such as The Alley in Mulberry Street Lane, The Hummingbird Stage and Taproom, just to name a few. Art is alive at The Gallery at the Macon Arts Alliance as they host an opening reception each First Friday for their newest exhibit, The 567 Center for Renewal holds gallery openings, as well as the Contemporary Arts Exchange above Michael’s on Mulberry. Live theatre abounds at Theatre Macon and The Grand Opera House. Children learn and play at the Georgia Children’s Museum. The Georgia Sports Hall of Fame hosts dance lessons each First Friday as well.

The open container law is relaxed in downtown Macon within the Central Busines District between 4 pm and 10 pm each First Friday to allow patrons to carry their beverage of choice from venue to venue. These drinks must be purchased from a downtown business and be carried in the official First Friday cup.
